Virginia Commonwealth, host of the VCU Men’s Tennis Invitational, defeated visiting East Tennessee State, 5-0, on Sunday. It was the Buccaneer’s first loss of the season after opening the tournament with wins over Delaware and Norfolk State.
VCU won all of its singles matches in straight sets except at the No. 4 slot. ETSU’s Moises Serrano lost to the Ram’s Francesc Lleal to three sets before falling, 2-6, 6-1, 10-3. In doubles, the tandem of newcomer Fernando Fiuri and Francisco Diaz lost to Daniel Casquero and Julien Lousao, 6-4, 6-4.
ETSU’s next match will be this Friday at 23rd-ranked Wake Forest.
