Israeli Prime Minister Sharon, recently re-elected, has consistently stood firm and has taken action to protect his country instead of giving his country away.
We can look at Israel vs. the PLO and figure that the best way to acquire long lasting peace is for the established state of Israel to part with sections of their country, which is an unacceptable resolution. Unfortunately, the priority for Israel has no longer become finding peace.
Our situation would be similar if Canada was to begin whining that all the bordering U.S. states of Canada magically belonged to them.
Citizens of the U.S. would be livid and would hopefully claim they enjoy being states in the U.S. Then, Canada gets upset and begins terrorist attacks on our country. They bomb continuously, murder and send messages of hate across the border until they either get what they want or we change their mind by negotiation or force.
We would consider the above illustration to be absurd if it were to happen. So, why is it any more absurd to ask Israel not to defend themselves when they are under attack.
In Israel, negotiation seems to mean little or nothing. Sign whatever you want, but it seems that it rarely will be honored. It is not Israel that is the ultimate aggressor in this situation, it is the PLO.
Israel will stay where they are and fight for what they have. Israel is under attack seemingly daily. They suffer casualties from bombing attacks or some other disgusting display of cowardice. If anything, we should support their efforts against the terrorist threats in their nation.
Sharon has proven he has a backbone and that he will strike back with force only when it is necessary. He said that he wants to find peace with the Palestin-ians, but he would not resume any peace talks while the violence against Israel continues.
The responsibility lies not on Israel, but on the PLO. The Palestinians need to willingly lay down their weapons and sit at the table and talk.
