ETSU’s women’s tennis team fell to East Carolina, 4-1, and defeated Norfolk State, 4-1, in Sunday in the final day of Virginia Commonwealth Invitational.
In the Bucs’ first match of the day, against East Carolina, Lyndall Jordan defeated Sylwia Ziolkowska in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 1 singles. Raluca Baicu defeated Courtney McInnis in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. Buccaneer sophomore Gemma Halim defeated Kirstin Buchanan in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 position. Emily Kohl defeated Jessica Irey 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. In doubles action, Paulina Sierdinski and Christina Meilicki defeated Tatiana Arriaran and Aimee Villavicencio 6-3, 6-4.
The Buccaneers regrouped in the final match of the day to defeat Norfolk State 4-1. In No. 1 singles, Halim defeated Barbora Stejskalova of Norfolk State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Martina Vondrova defeated McInnis, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 2 position. Irey wasted no time in defeating Flaminia Migone at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0.
Buc freshman Jewel Aldea and the doubles tandem of Arriaran and Villavciencio both won by default in Sunday’s final matches.
