A unique quilt featuring photos of ETSU is part of a project to raise money for Once Again Students In School, an adult student organization at ETSU.
Christine Turner, an adjunct accounting instructor and OASIS member, produced the quilt by transferring digital images of ETSU buildings to the cotton fabric.
It was designed by Debbie Mumm and also features a border in blue and gold, ETSU’s school colors, as well as patriotic and university-related images.
Students, faculty and staff members are invited to sign the back of the quilt using archival pigment pens. The quilt is currently displayed in a window in Turner’s office, Room 206 of Sam Wilson Hall.
“It’s a very detailed, meticulous quilt – theme-related and just well done,” said Karen Sullivan, assistant director of Adult, Commuter and Transfer Services.
“I think years from now, that’s going to mean something to anyone who gets the quilt.”
Quilt square patterns depicting the letters in the name “ETSU” are being sold for $1 each, and each comes with a raffle ticket. On Dec. 4, a drawing will be held to determine a winner for the quilt, who will be notified by telephone. There is no limit to how many tickets a person can buy.
Patterns can be purchased from OASIS members and from the ACTS office on the second floor of the D.P. Culp University Center.
OASIS uses the money from fund-raisers like this one for breakfast for its members during their early-morning meetings, the Above & Beyond Award given to a member each spring and an Incentive Award given to a member each fall. It is also used for annual donations to charities chosen by OASIS members and family events on campus like family movie night, which is conducted in conjunction with University Productions.
Next semester, OASIS members will come up with a different fund-raising project, depending upon what skills that particular group possesses.
“Every year you do things according to your strengths,” Sullivan said.
“You never know what kind of skills and crafts that they (OASIS members) bring with them.”
OASIS meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7 a.m. in the lobby of the ACTS office. New members can join at anytime.
