Has anyone besides me noticed that there is never anything new on the radio? If I am lucky enough to hear a new song I love, the radio plays it until I am sick of it in just a few weeks.
I am in my car a lot. My job involves a lot of driving, and I travel often to see my family so having nothing to listen to is something I can’t tolerate.
I guess I could just download songs I like and burn them onto a CD, but if I did that, I would never be exposed to any new music. I like the radio. I like not having to make a choice about what I am listening to. I like to be somewhat surprised at what song comes next. With CDs, I can’t get that.
Another problem is picking up a radio station for the entire trip. The radio station I am listening to always seems to go out of range during a good song. A lot of my family live where there are literally no radio stations except maybe a Christian bluegrass station.
Well, I have finally solved my problem and made my car a much more hospitable environment. I bought satellite radio.
Normally, I would never do a product endorsement, mainly because I don’t like anything enough to talk about it, but this is different. I chose Sirius over XM because it was less expensive for me, but I don’t think the brand matters as much as the fact we now have an alternative to commercial-filled, repetitive radio.
I have always been a fan of many different genres of music, so I am delighted by having more than one station playing the same type of music. I have about six choices of rock, hip-hop, dance and talk channels and there are all kinds of other cool things on the dial. The Discovery Channel, A&E and Court TV each have some really good radio shows. There are two kids’ stations, a few Spanish stations and even a channel for truckers.
Another thing I really like is that the music, for the most part, is uncensored. You get all this for about $13 a month.
So, this year for Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Yule or whatever it is you celebrate, pick yourself up a little gift to make your car, your home or both sound a little nicer this season. You will be surprised how quick a trip goes by with just the right music to listen to.
