Dear Editor,
This was the first Homecoming I have missed since leaving ETSU in 2000.
While in college, Homecoming was my absolute favorite time of the year – the crisp air, blue skies, red leaves and FOOTBALL.
Why have Homecoming in the fall without football?
Why not do what other schools that aren’t big enough to have football do? (This isn’t the case with ETSU. We are big enough to have football.)
We should have Homecoming in the spring during basketball season.
I am a big supporter of everything regarding ETSU – except the decision to cut football.
Just one more reason for students to pack up on the weekends and go home – there’s nothing to do.
I have always supported, and continue to support, Dr. Stanton on his decisions and his love of ETSU and Tennessee higher education.
I wish I could understand how we intend to be the “University of Choice” in Tennessee when we can’t compete with the student life that is available at other schools (Memphis, Middle Tennessee, University of Tennessee Knoxville/Chattanooga, etc.).
I just wish the freshmen at ETSU would have had the opportunity to enjoy the feeling of ETSU during a real Homecoming in the fall.
Hopefully next year, the event coordinators will decide to move Homecoming to the spring so we aren’t reminded about what we are missing.
Go Bucs!
