Troglodytes, stalactites and stalagmites are a few of those words that can never quite be used in normal conversation. That is, unless someone is talking about one of Campus Recreation’s caving trips.
This Saturday, Outdoor Adventure, a division of Campus Recreation, will be exploring one of two caves, Whorley’s Cave in Sullivan County or Robert’s Cave in Virginia. The location of the trip will be determined at the Trip Information and Prep Session.
The TIPS will be held today, at 4 p.m. in the Equipment Room of the CPA. The session will “review cave safety, geology, biology, ecology and how to prepare dress-wise,” said Dave Mueller, coordinator of Outdoor Adventure.
This will be the second caving trip Outdoor Adventure has offered. In November, a group of students explored Whorley’s Cave, trekking along the popular “Boy Scout Loop.”
“It was a completely different experience for me,” said Moritz Biermann, one of the participants on the trip.
“I really enjoyed myself and hope to do it again sometime.”
Outdoor Adventure’s activities include caving, backpacking and mountain biking. The trips are aimed at novices and offer a chance for amateurs to try an outdoor sport.
Saturday’s caving trip will cost $15, which includes gear rental and transportation.
