After three days of intense flag football action in the mud of the CPA’s playing fields the Super Weekend tournament has come to an end.
After an incredible three-overtime championship game between Sig Ep and the DuckSquad, the DuckSquad came away the champions.
The DuckSquad came back from a 13-point deficit against an excellent SAE team to reach the championship. Sig Ep put over 20 points on the tough defense of the med school’s Quillen Boys to advance to the final game. Both teams proved through the tournament that they deserved to be in the championship game.
The game turned very exciting in the final two minutes as the DuckSquad put a score up to take a 28-20 lead. Sig Ep put together a drive that got them into the end zone with seven seconds remaining.
A big two-point conversion later and the game went into overtime. The teams traded scores in a college-style overtime format to take the game to the decisive third overtime. The rules require that teams go for two-point conversions in the third overtime.
Sig Ep put another score on the board to take control of the game 47-41, but failed to convert on the point after. The DuckSquad scored on their possession and had only to put in the extra point to win. Quarterback Jordan Ramsey rolled out and hit Travis Hall who fell back across the goal line to end the game. Final score DuckSquad 49, Sig Ep 47.
“It was intense,” said Gary Carver, captain of the DuckSquad. “Sig Ep is a good team and we had a tough time stopping them. Thankfully, when it counted, the team played big and got the win.”
Each team in the tournament played hard with all of the games being close.
“We faced several good teams during this tournament,” Carver said. “No game that we played was an easy win. SAE, Sigma Chi, of course Sig Ep, every game with all of those guys was decided by just a few points.”
The DuckSquad finished the tournament 6-0 to win the coveted ETSU intramural championship T-shirt.
Sig Ep’s only two losses in the entire tournament were to the DuckSquad by a combined three points.
“There were some great football games this weekend,” said Carver. “I think that I speak for every team in the tournament when I say that we really appreciate the campus Rec. staff for putting this on. I think everybody had a great time.
