I recently saw a movie that had received good reviews and caught my attention.
It’s about a black coach who took over the Richmond Oiler High school team in the California Bay area which is the west cost equivalent of the Bronx in New York City.
Coach Carter starly and poingnantly shows the stresses and demands that are placed on these tough street kids who so desperately reach out for a piece of the pie.
I have already placed this beautiful little film on a short list of movies that should be viewed by every high school and middle school in America.
It’s not designed to entertain but to educate and touch the lives of all who see it. It succeeds in both regards. The fact that this is a true story adds much to its appeal.
My list includes October Sky, Mr. Holland’s Opus, Radio, Miracle and now this one.
Do yourself a favor and see this magic little work. It will nourish you and reaffirm your faith in humankind.
