Dear Editor,
I am proud to be a smoker and donot consider myself rude at all. The only thing I found rude was the narrow-minded view expressed by the author of the letter that lumped all smokers into the “rude” category.
My solution for smoking on campus isto leave it the way it is.
Ashtrays are provided in front of buildings, and I admit we do not use them all the time, but you cannot punish the majority of smokers for the inconsideration of a few.
Second, if you do not like the smell of smoke and it irritates you so much then do not walk behind a smoker.
The campus is big enough for you to walk around without being in my two feet of space.
Third, do not sit beside people you know smoke.
This is college and we do have the option of picking our seats so choose a little more wisely if you are offended.
Cheap perfume or cologne is a college hazard because most cannot afford the really great brands.
Non-smokers are guilty of this too.
I am offended by people on a daily basis, but I do not go around trying to hand out cigarettes to rude non-smokers.
So do not try to take away the thing that makes us smokers a little less rude – a good cigarette after long and sometimes boring classes.
