Dear Editor, Mark Peters makes a lot of assertions in his letter in the Feb. 28 issue of the East Tennessean.
He implies that “liberals” are opposed to fixing Social Security. Not true. Bush’s “fix” will, according to his own estimates, run up billions in additional debt.
The liberal fix – make the upper class pay into Social Security at the same rate as the working class – will help get us out of debt.
He says that chemical and biological weapons have been found in Iraq. I would like to see his evidence.
He implies that only homosexuals are in favor of fair treatment for homosexuals.
One does not have to be a homosexual to support equality for homosexuals any more than one has to be a woman to support equality for women.
Finally, he calls Michael Moore a “wingnut”. Moore is against unprovoked wars that are not in the national interest (Iraq, not Afghanistan) and is against schoolchildren murdering their classmates.
These are not extreme positions, no matter how often Republicans say they are.
