Dear Editor,
We at the library found Susan P. Taylor’s “ETSU not cunducive to college experience” article very interesting, and it speaks to an area that we are in the process of addressing.
As you noted in the article, we have plenty of little rooms for individual study, but other than the late night study area, the large group areas are limited.
At our faculty meeting a month ago it was discussed to remove most of the study carrels at the back of the first floor stacks, and replace these with large group tables, and comfortable reading chairs. Our hope it is provide a large reading/study area, with Internet access. The desire is to draw groups to this area.
We plan to start these moves this week during Spring Break, and if all goes smooth, we could have the area ready for use next week. When you return to campus, please stop by the library, first floor stacks area, and please make suggestions to improve this area, we need to know if we are moving in the right direction.
