Dear Editor,
In light of a recent Letter to the Editor you published just before spring break, I would like to make a suggestion regarding your student management/editorial staff.
I believe the author of the letter titled “Paper is too Liberal …,” Mr. Riedel, should immediately be offered a job by your staff.
Specifically, he should be working with you in the editorial department. Riedel’s qualifications for an editorial position were abundantly clear in his letter.
First, he shows a strong intellect, demonstrates a keen political cunning, and a firm grasp of current events.
Secondly, Riedel exudes confidence, excellent diction and command of the English language as well as how it should be written.
Thirdly, his comments on professionalism were dead on and, hopefully, were well received by both you and your writers in the spirit of constructive criticism in which they were surely intended.
And lastly, he offered concrete evidence to back up his criticisms and comments – something of which your paper, to this point in my experience, has been utterly devoid.
So, without question, Riedel should be immediately offered a job as, at the very least, an editorial consultant if not a full-time position of oversight.
I’m looking forward to seeing a new and improved East Tennessean under Riedel’s leadership.
Greg Beck
