Kappa Delta Sorority at East Tennessee State University will host the Shamrock Golf Tournament on April, 8, from noon-5 p.m. at Ridgefields Country Club in Kingsport.
The registration fee is $300 per team of four, including 18 holes of golf, prizes and lunch catered by Texas Roadhouse.
Eighty percent of the proceeds collected will remain in Tennessee, benefiting the Coalition for Kids in Johnson City and the Children’s Advocacy Center in Blountville.
The remaining 20 percent will go to Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA America), the sorority’s national philanthropy for nationwide public awareness programs.
Thousands of Kappa Deltas will join together across the country in the fund-raiser to benefit local affiliates and chapters of PCA America.
The Gamma Delta ETSU chapter has participated in a golf tournament for six years and caters to over 250 members of the community each year.
Last year alone, the Shamrock Golf Tournament raised over $15,000.
Golfers are encouraged to come out and enjoy the festivities. A variety of prizes and a plaque will be given by Kappa Delta during the tournament.
“Your donation is just an investment in America’s future,” said Adria Presnell, president of Kappa Delta.
“Each business that donates will be recognized in the program at each of the events. Working hand in hand with our alumni and local businesses, we plan to make this year’s Shamrock Event the best ever.”
According to recent PCA America statistics, the number of children abused or neglected in the United States grew by 33 percent to reach a level of 3,244,000 in the last decade.
Three children die each day from abuse or neglect in the U.S.
Founded in 1897, Kappa Delta Sorority began supporting PCA America in 1981, and began the nationwide Shamrock Event in 1983.
More than $6 million has been raised through these events to benefit child abuse prevention efforts across the country.
