The ETSU women’s tennis team got back on track Saturday as they defeated former conference foe, Davidson, 5-2 at the Memorial Center. The Lady Bucs are now 18-4 on the year while the Wildcats fell to 12-7 with the loss.
The Lady Bucs started the afternoon off by sweeping the Lady Wildcats in doubles action.
In the No. 1 position doubles team Masha Ilina and Sylwia Ziolkowska defeated Kelsey Linville and Kim Whelan 8-5.
Sophomore Olya Batsula and freshman Tara Byrne defeated Lindsey Powel and Michele Fanney 8-3 in the No. 2 position.
The No. 3 doubles team of Sandie Knight and Elena Volobueva defeated Kate Levitt and Lora Dushanova 8-6 to complete the sweep.
In singles action, the Lady Bucs took four of the six matches.
In the No. 1 singles position, Linville defeated Ilina, 6-2, 6-3 while Batsula defeated Fanney, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 slot. Volobueva was defeated by Whelan after a hard fought match 7-5, 3-6, 6-0 in the No. 3 position and senior Knight defeated Levitt 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Freshman Tara Byrne defeated Meredith Skeeters in the No. 4 slot, 6-2, 6-1, while Vita Moskaliova defeated Lora Dushanova, 7-5, 7-5.
“It was a great win the first time we’ve every defeated Davidson and the girls played with great discipline,” said head coach Steve Brooks.
