Dear Editor,
As I sit here in my room sick with pneumonia reading the East Tennessean, Prowse’s article about ‘Homecoming spirit has left the building since football exited ETSU,’ caught my attention. I couldn’t agree with him more!
I have attended six schools in my life (pre-school – college). ETSU is the first school that doesn’t have a football team (I mean come on … we even had a football team for my school when I was in fourth grade!). What’s the point of having a Homecoming when you don’t have a reason to be cheering?
ETSU preaches ‘school spirit’. How are we supposed to have school spirit when the only thing we can be cheering for is who wins Homecoming queen or king?
We either need to do away with Homecoming altogether (that is until football comes back) or since we have great support behind basketball, why not next year just move it back a couple weeks and have Homecoming for our first basketball game?
Don’t get me wrong, I love ETSU, it’s a great school . but if the administration is going to shove school spirit down our throat, at least give us something that we can actually support.
