Dear Editor:
The Republicans’ record of running the country for the last 12 years in power is disastrous and speaks for itself. My fellow students, in this registered voter’s opinion the Republican Party is finished in America! The Republicans have run the great ship of the state right into the ground! They have squandered hundreds and hundred of billions and billions of taxpayer’s dollars in a far away land – while 40 million Americans sit in poverty in this land, and 48 million Americans go without health insurance in the richest country in the world!
Folks … the Republicans ran the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the world got to see how Republicans run a war, the world got to see pictures of torture of so-called “enemy combatants” in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay … most of which were innocent, and all were tortured! Republicans have a select memory. They don’t mention the truth, they don’t mention the pictures (which don’t lie folks), the world saw them and this registered voter and ETSU graduate student saw them.
In conclusion my fellow Americans this is how the Republicans run a war and the results and record speaks for itself! They have wrecked the great ship of the state upon the rock of torture! Now, next week President Bush is sending Robert Gates to congress to ask for another $200 billion to keep this disastrous war going. The Republican Party is finished in America! The Republicans have cost America in the eye of the world to lose the moral high ground. The father of Sociology Dr. Emile Durkheim once said “The key to change is for people to speak up and speak out against public madness and not be afraid.” The voices of war are loud. That’s why we must show that the voices of peace are louder. We showed that my fellow students, along with faculty and staff when together we marched for peace and to end the war madness in Iraq! Now you know why the Republican Party is finished in America!
Because as Clarenc Darrow said, “True patriotism hates injustice in its own land more than anywhere else.”
Sincerely, your friend and fellow student, Class 2007, East Tennessee State University Master’s Program
