Temperature Issues: The renovation is requiring considerable work to be done on the chilled water distribution system throughout the Culp Center, especially in the main mechanical room under the auditorium breezeway where the chilled water enters the building. Since Monday we have had no chilled water and will not have for at least a couple of weeks. The HVAC blowers are running and they are circulating a mixture of outside and inside air. It was assumed when all this was planned that we would not need chilled water till next spring. My only advice is lots of cool drinks (no beer, sorry), fans and hope for cold weather!
With the roofing work going on, we need your help in locating any ceiling leaks that occurred this morning with the rain. Send me an email if you spotted one.
Elevator issues:? The elevator maintenance company replaced a hydraulic valve on the system and it seems to be what is tripping and indicating an overload on the unit. Since this was not a major problem before they changed the valve we have asked that they investigate. They report back that it is functioning correctly and that the problem is overloading on the elevator. We are continuing to press the elevator company about the issue but they continue to say everything is OK. While we are not personally convinced of this, we do need to try to limit the load on the elevator. The elevator has a maximum load limit of 2,000 pounds, which if you use an average weight of 150 pounds, equates to about 10 to 12 people plus books and bags. Having a functioning elevator is critical for access to all the floors whenever the ramp is closed. Please help us keep it operational.
I have asked to be able to open portions of the interior ramp whenever possible and they are trying to do this.? Today for example the ramp from the lower level to the second level was open. However, whenever heavy equipment is being used at the top of the ramp where they are working, the entire ramp must be closed to insure everyone’s safety.
The crew working on installing the floor tile was causing some problems in how we could move around on the second floor. They are now working a late afternoon, early evening shift to help with this problem. That way whatever they lay on one day can be walked on by the next and they do not have to block off areas during the heavy traffic part of the day.
I have asked for the contractor to clean up the construction debris that is still setting around in the hallways, stairwells, and even inside the fenced off areas.? We all have to live through all this work, but having it be a little cleaner would sure help.
Almost as fast as my staff puts up directional and information signage it is disappearing – gremlins I guess!?We will continue to replace the signs, as needed.?
