Dear Editor:
Thousands of homeless roam the street on any given day in America. Why so much poverty in one of the richest countries in the world? It is because no one sees them . no one but God, who made us all. Look at the ranks of the homeless that continue to grow in the United States. That’s the disastrous republican record and they are not done yet. Two million middle class Americans now stand at the door of homelessness unless they get the help they need. Albert Cannus once said: “Freedom is not constituted primarily of privileges but of responsibilities.”
Is the responsibility of all Americans to look after those who need help and shelter those who need shelter?
We cut $55 billion out of federal aid to the poorest of the poor while the Republicans managed to find $10 billion in government subsidies to give the oil companies who are already raking in record profits.
And somehow Republicans say they can’t find a dime to help America’s homeless families. But look here . here’s $10 billion for the oil companies.
In conclusion my fellow students, stand up for those who cannot. Stand up and when you do, you stand up for yourself. Speak out for those who cannot and speak out for America . because no one can see well through their tears.
Remember them, and know this, “Blessed are those who have regard for the weak.”
