Dear Editor:
In the Oct. 25 edition of East Tennessean, Elliott Cennamo wrote: “What if we pulled our troops from the Korean peninsula? How about the collapse of the Korean and possibly Asian economies and confidence, perhaps renewed fighting. Stop imposing trade and sanctions?” – The leaders of both countries are in agreement in asking us to pull our troops off of their border, do you think that qualifies as a valid reason to bring our troops home?
He goes on to write a (what if we) “up and pulled out of Iraq without a plan? Likely civil war and chaos of the likes of which I don’t want to imagine.”
Elliott, it is very clear now that we went into Iraq without a plan, look at the reasons given by our current president: 1. Sadaam is a threat to our national security – (this proved to be false and Bush knew it – look it up on Youtube). 2. “Iraq has WMDs” – none were ever found! 3. Our mission is to bring peace and democracy to Iraq. – We have managed to destroy their water treatment plants, factories, schools, mosques, hospitals, stores and homes.
We got rid of 30,000-plus enemy soldiers who were very cleverly hidden behind the 655,000-plus innocent men, women and children who died in order to help these people. You think they want our brand of freedom?
Concerning the possibility of a North American Union, (merger of Canada, the USA and Mexico) Cennamo wrote: “Of course not. Such things were discussed, but were never even seriously considered.”
The fact is meetings have taken place between the three leaders, in Mexico, in the U.S. and in Canada. It is also a fact that the minutes of their meetings have been sealed, so how do you know such things were discussed, but were never even seriously considered? Please read this for more:http://www.cfr.org/content/publications/attachments/NorthAmerica_TF_final.pdf – It clearly refutes what you are saying about the possibilities of a Union of 3.4).
Concerning the National ID card, Cennamo wrote: “Since when was the government trying to force that down our throats? It came up in Congress a few times, sure, but was almost universally struck down.” Read this for facts: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,191857,00.html. Don’t be so quick to dismiss Mr. Belk’s comments until you do some honest research.
Concerning illegal immigrants, Cennamo wrote: “You need a Social Security number to get U.S. welfare benefits, and you know what illegal immigrants don’t have? A Social Security number.”
Free medical care is a benefit, illegal immigrants get free medical care by going to many hospitals and taxpayers pay the bill. Illegal immigrants have children here, those children get into the school systems paid for with tax dollars.
For those of you who are residents in training at ETSU’s fine medical school, you already know that this is a terrible situation in health care.
Elliott, it seems your opinions are coming from some pretty shaky sources. We must become a nation of thinking people again. The Internet has made it possible for citizen journalists to write articles, to share breaking news, to form groups of like-minded people, to keep our government in check and we must avail ourselves of the God given brains we have previously failed to use.
Ron Paul is not the perfect answer to all that ails us!
He is presently, the only candidate running for the office of president of the United States who is speaking the truth and has the past voting record to back up each of his statements.
Please research each of the candidates, find out what they used to say and what they say now.
If their position shave somehow miraculously changed over the years, don’t be surprised if you find that they will change again. www.ronpaul2008.com
