The College of Business and Technology Advisory Board at ETSU has established a faculty fellowship offering a stipend of $3,000 per year for a five-year period.
The honor recognizes a faculty member noted for high standards of professionalism and ethics, effective teaching, research that advances a scholarly field and service to humankind.
Dr. Ugur Yavas, a professor in the Department of Management and Marketing, has been named the first Advisory Board Faculty Fellow.
Yavas, who came to ETSU in 1987, holds a baccalaureate degree from Robert College in Istanbul, Turkey; an M.B.A. from Florida State University; and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. from Georgia State University.
During his career at ETSU, Yavas received the ETSU Foundation Research Award in 1993 and the 2001 College of Business Faculty Excellence Award in Research.
The author of some 250 articles appearing in scholarly journals, Yavas has accrued more than 900 citations to his writings and has given presentations at universities in Finland, Germany, Turkey, New Zealand, Holland and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Yavas has undertaken research in Germany under the sponsorship of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
He is past governor of the Academy of Marketing Science, and was an Association for Consumer Research national representative as well as national coordinator for the European Marketing Academy.
Currently serving on the editorial boards of a dozen scholarly journals, Yavas has been editor of the Journal of Asia-Pacific Business and associate editor of the International Marketing Review.
As an outgrowth of his belief that academics must nurture students and assist colleagues in their academic endeavors, Yavas mentors students and young faculty at ETSU and at universities around the world.
A resident of Johnson City, Yavas and his wife, Ayse, are the parents of two adult children, Zeynep Kinaci and Dr. Sinan Yavas, and they have two granddaughters.
