ETSU’s Sherrod Library has joined forces with the Wayne G. Basler Center for Physical Activity (CPA) to provide students with a way to do academic research while taking a break from fitness routines.
Rita Scher, dean of Libraries at ETSU, has set as a top priority the outreach to students and heightened campus awareness of library resources. She especially wants students to know that the Sherrod Library can bring over 600,000 full-text articles to any student’s laptop computer 24 hours a day.
Leslie Adebonojo, the undergraduate student services librarian, met with Jon Walker, director of the CPA, to discuss ways to bring library resources to a place frequented by a great number of students as they enjoy the indoor track, climbing wall, exercise equipment, and many other amenities.
Beginning in January, Adebonojo and Amy Arnold, the graduate programs librarian, began staffing the front desk of the CPA on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 2:30 and 4:30. They bring a laptop computer connected to the Sherrod Library information systems and a willingness to assist students in finding what they need for their academic work.
In addition, the library maintains a free book exchange carousel, offering new and used paperback books to share.
