In his final tune-up before the Atlantic Sun Conference’s Indoor Track and Field Championship on his home turf, ETSU’s Kenneth Rotich (Nairobi, Kenya) turned in a spectacular warm-up act, winning the 3,000m and the 5,000m races at the Clemson Invitational over the weekend.
For his efforts, Rotich earned his first Indoor Athlete of the Week award, the conference announced on Wednesday. He won three such awards during the 2007 cross country campaign.
Rotich, a sophomore from Nairobi, Kenya and a sports management major, opened his weekend by outdistancing himself in a field of 25 in the 3,000m, posting a time of 8:32.32 for his second win in the event this year.
His time set the mark as the fastest run in the A-Sun this season.
On Saturday, he blazed his way to victory in the 5,000m beating 12 other competitors and again establishing the A-Sun’s fastest time in this event, crossing the finish line in a time of 14:57.76.
