East Tennessee State University’s Department of Foreign Languages in the College of Arts and Sciences will hold the annual Hispanic Student Day on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Bud Frank Theatre in Gilbreath Hall.
The day, which will provide an orientation to college life, is intended for any middle or high school student of Hispanic heritage. Parents are also welcome to attend the bilingual program. Held for the first time in 2001 as a response to the region’s growing Hispanic population, Hispanic Student Day is focused on encouraging students to set higher education goals and making available assistance in overcoming any barriers.
The program will include speakers providing information on topics such as potential college admissions and financial aid and will also feature music and entertainment.
A tour of the ETSU campus will be followed by lunch, sponsored by Northeast State Technical Community College.
For further information, contact the program coordinators, Susan Shelton and Randy Mathson, at 439-8342 or via LCRC@etsu.edu.
