The ETSU Women’s Golf team had their first tournament of the season from Sept. 16 to 17 in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship against 15 other teams.

One of the stars of the tournament was a junior, Tereza Melecka (Belcovice, Czech Republic). After the first day of the tournament, Melecka sat in a three-way tie for fourth place going into the second day of the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate.

Melecka already has her first collegiate win and was looking for her second in this tournament. She fired a 3-under 68 during round one. She wrapped up the first day with an even par-71.

Melecka entered Tuesday’s final round three shots off the lead, which was held by Pimnipa Panthong from Kent State University.

Melecka totaled a 54-hole score of 3-under-par 210. She had a strong finish in the final round.

Melecka was one of only 10 golfers to finish with a 54-hole below par in the two-day tournament.

All in all, Kent State University took home individual and team titles.

Melecka finished in seventh place.

The Buccaneers were playing short-handed in the tournament. The team competed in the tournament with only four players, due to senior Ankita Kelaya (Bangalore, India) withdrawing at the beginning of the first day.

Sophomore Warda Amira Rawof (Kuala Lampur, Malaysia) and freshman Rimsha Ijaz (Lahore, Pakistan) moved up in the leaderboard.

The Bucs finished the tournament as a team in 15th place with a score of 913.

Ijaz and Rawof tied for 67th place and junior Kornbongkoat Sararat (Nongkhai, Thailand) tied for 83rd place.

The golf team is headed to Colorado for their second tournament of the season, the Golfweek Conference Challenge that will take place from Sept. 23 to 25.
