BucsCARE is a webpage offering ETSU students access to multiple resources including academic advisement and mental health services. It also serves as the tagline for ETSU’s community care system.

“It’s a community effort to meet the needs of students, whether that be connecting them to resources and support or advisement and the tutoring center,” said Michelle Byrd, dean of students.

Over the years ETSU has worked to build up resources and support for students on campus, such as a food pantry, clothing closet, counseling services, the university health center and mental health services.

The BucsCARE website lists the resources and support available for students across campus. It also allows students to submit care reports if they are concerned about another student.

Byrd said ETSU is now starting to look at multiple areas of wellness such as occupational and financial wellness, and resources for these can be found on the BucsCARE website.

With regard to mental health, Byrd said there are many different groups and cultures that look upon mental health in different ways and ETSU is making an effort to break down barriers and alleviate stigma.

“It’s perfectly normal for you to need or want to talk to someone and work out your concerns through talk therapy or counseling,” said Byrd. “Taking care of your mental health should be just as normal as taking care of your physical health. Address it early.”
