The men’s soccer team traveled to Lexington on Saturday to take on Southern Conference rival VMI. The Bucs earned the win via shutout over VMI. The Bucs earned their first conference win, making their record 1-1.

Redshirt sophomore keeper Josh Perryman (Sheffield, England) earned his second clean win with the shutout victory.

The Bucs were on the attack with three freshmen Hauk Andreas Fossen (Moelv, Norway), Kieran Richards (Hamilton, New Zealand) and Jeremiah Edouard (Pompano Beach, Florida) earning the goals for the team.

On the assisting side, Bradley Empson (London, England), Philip Hildebrandt (Charlottenlund, Denmark) and Josh Salinas (Stafford, Virginia) each aided the team to the win.

The Bucs had the control early, scoring two points at the 16-minute mark. Fossen kicked off the momentum after nailing a corner kick assisted by Empson. They continued their lead into the quarter when Richards connected with a crossing pass from Salinas to extend the Bucs’ lead to 2-0.

The Bucs finished with 12 shots in the opening minutes of the first half and a total of 10 corner kicks. Richards led the Bucs with seven shots, while Edouard was behind him with four.

On the defensive side of the ball, Perryman stood guard well by protecting the goal and was only tried on two different occasions. With this win, Perryman recorded his fifth shutout of his career, a record once held by former Buccaneer James Holt, marking the fifth most in the program’s history.

“For this year, we want to build into the year,” said head coach David Casper.

The Bucs host a set of conference games this week with Mercer on Oct. 22 and UNCG on Oct. 26.
