Presented by the ETSU Department of Art & Design and Slocumb Galleries, the Bachelor of Fine Arts fall exhibitions will be on display from Oct. 28 to Nov. 26 at the Slocumb Galleries.

The exhibiting seniors in graphic design are Brett Blue, Kaden Atkins, Hayley Foutz, Hunter Bosnick, Josh Smith, Adam Woods and Harrison Harvey. Exhibiting seniors in studio arts are Joshua Harr, Elise Askonas and Ashley Stoll.

Additionally, Hunter Bosnick, Josh Smith, Adam Woods and Harrison Harvey are also among the BFA graphic design students presenting the week of Nov. 11. Two senior BFA students from the studio art program are Elise Askonas and Ashley Stoll, who are featured on the weeks of Nov. 18 – Nov. 26.

BFA senior Hayley Foutz presents her exhibition entitled, “From Up Here.” The show puts into perspective how challenging it is to be a woman standing over 6″0′ by illustrating certain scenes throughout Foutz’s life that showcase how stereotypical and judgmental people can act toward women outside the average height.

Foutz uses life-size cutouts accommodating each 36-by-24-inch poster that repeats the feelings that the tall female character is experiencing in each scene.

“Having to deal with these challenges is what sparked my inspiration,” Foutz said. “I wanted to show this unfair treatment in hopes of changing how others act toward tall women and give a voice and confidence to other tall women.”

Foutz uses programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create shape-based realistic illustrations that include shading, highlights and details.

Foutz shares that being part of the BFA exhibitions helped her grow as an artist.

“I had to research several videos and articles on accurately drawing facial features, body poses and ways I could achieve a certain look on the Adobe programs,” Foutz said. “I believe this should be done with any form of art. Keep exploring and never settle for something that could be improved.”

All events are open to the public, free of charge. Gallery hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on receptions and Thursdays until 6 p.m. or by appointment.
