Outdoor Adventure and Adult Commuter and Transfer Services put on their own Halloween bash for Homecoming on Tuesday, letting students paint their own pumpkins and zipline through the night air.

The event was packed for the third year in a row as students lined up for the chance to take home their own pet pumpkin, and the daredevils harnessed up to zip across the nearby field. Outdoor Adventure signed each student in and collected waivers before sending them sailing through part of the Basler Aerial Adventure Course.

“We hope to just get the word out of our wonderful course and the things we offer,” said Ben Riddle, challenge course manager for Outdoor Adventure. “We want to get students out here, and this is a great way to get students out here. Come spring we’re planning on bringing out quite a few different events, both at the climbing wall and at the course, but since the semester is slowing down, we’re slowing down too.”

For those that didn’t plan on flying that night, Adult Commuter and Transfer Services offered a more relaxed atmosphere nearby with pumpkin painting, spooky music and snacks like hot chocolate and s’mores. Paint supplies and pumpkins were provided free of charge.

“We started off with doing this as part of transfer week, but then we realized that all the students were enjoying this,” said Jennifer Rice, assistant director for ACTS. “This is the third year we’ve done this, and it’s grown each year.”

As the evening wound down and their pumpkins dried, students sat around campfires and roasted marshmallows. Lights that were hung around the Aerial Adventure Course lit up the field, serving as a beacon for the event.
