Along with the Culp opening next semester, Student Activities and Organizations’ staff want to rebrand the location as a student center with welcoming environment and inclusive activities.
“In a way, with the new renovations, the building is being given back to the students,” Lexi Petrak, coordinator of Student Activities & Buctainment advisor said. “There will be more spaces for programming, lounging, gaming, eating, etc. and it is all student centered. Something that Dr. Sherlin said during the dining hall grand opening was that The Culp is the living room of campus. I think that is a really great way to put how we hope the new Culp atmosphere to be – for it to be a hub for students to spend down time in non-academic buildings.”
Some of the fun includes weekly Tuesday events, starting March 3. Trivia, bingo, game nights, karaoke, tie dying, acts from across the country and, of course, Free Movie Fridays will resume in the Culp Auditorium with new movie selections.
“We know that college is overwhelming,” Staff Programmer and Collaboration Chair Darrius Akridge said. “This gives students the opportunity to take a little break from that and get involved with a lot of fun activities that we have throughout campus. The more people are interested with the events on campus, the more people [you have] to continue to get through the college life.”
Events are open to anyone. Bring a friend or family member to ETSU and participate in the experience.
“Our events are tailored to all ETSU students and anyone in Johnson City and the surrounding areas,” Akridge said. “We post a lot of our events on social media and post around campus, so we can reach the entire campus and Tri-Cities.”
Buctainment is always open to event and activity suggestions from students, organizations, faculty and staff. If you would like to get involved, have questions or want to make suggestions, email etsufun@etsu.edu.
