Buctainment continues to bring free programming to ETSU students to help them connect and feel more involved on campus.
“Buctainment is the student programming board on campus,” said Ariana Abordo, the organization’s events coordinator. “We provide free events for students as a way to get away from their academic lives and just have a space to express themselves.”
Abordo emphasized that Buctainment’s events are designed with students in mind.
“All of our events are created by students, for students,” she said.
One of Buctainment’s main focuses this semester is bringing events directly to students.
“We turned our karaoke and trivia series into a traveling series,” Abordo said. “We’re going into different residence halls every Monday from 7-9 p.m., so even if campus is closed or it’s cold outside, we can still bring programming to students.”
Buctainment also has several larger events coming up.
Cruising Down Main Street will take place on Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Abordo said. Additionally, a Casino Night is scheduled for Feb. 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Culp Ballroom, in collaboration with the Students of Finance Association.
According to Abordo, events that allow students to be creative or relieve stress tend to be the most popular.
“Students really like events where they can sit down and create things with their friends,” she said. “Stuff-a-Plush is always a big one, and Smash and Salsa was really popular because it gave students an outlet during finals week.”
Collaboration plays a big role in Buctainment’s work.
“We like working with organizations you wouldn’t normally expect,” Abordo said. “It brings different communities on campus together and helps create a safe space for people to meet new people.”
Students can stay updated on events through BucHub, the campus life calendar, and Buctainment’s Instagram, @etsubuctainment. Abordo also encourages students to share their ideas.
“This is all for the students,” she said. “If there’s something people want to see on campus, we really want to hear that feedback.”
