The ETSU women’s basketball fought in a tough game on Feb. 1 against the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. In the end, the Buccaneers fell 82-91 in a shocking three overtimes.

Junior Micah Scheetz was one of the stars of the game playing a total of 53 minutes and 43 seconds, which is the second-most in the NCAA.

“I wasn’t thinking about how many minutes I was playing, but I definitely was feeling it,” said Scheetz. “I was very tired, but the emotions were high, and it was a fun game to play.”

The team now holds a conference record of 2-5 and an overall of 7-15.

“I think it was a tough game all around,” said assistant coach Ashely Houts. “We didn’t get the outcome that we wanted, so we’re obviously back to work on what we can do to get better in those situations.”

Both teams came out strong in the first quarter with UTC taking the lead 16-22. UTC remained ahead of ETSU up until the fourth quarter when ETSU tied the game causing it to go into its first overtime. ETSU and UTC remained tied as both earned nine points in the first overtime and 10 points in the second overtime.

“I said do your best to front, try to allow some ball pressure,” said head coach Brittney Ezell. “There’s not much we can do once it goes in there.”

The team has a couple more games before going into the Conference Tournament where seeing tough teams is almost inevitable.

“Next go around we will try to do some different things,” said Scheetz. “Some things are definitely going to have to change, maybe new strategies and different defenses. We want to show different things so that we can throw teams off.”

The team right now is 2-5 in their conference games and are set to play Western Carolina University in Brooks Gym on Feb. 6.
