As part of the ongoing renovations to the D.P. Culp Student Center, the TaylorMade Barbershop will soon be opening a new location inside the student center.

“Operating a barber shop on campus that students can tap into and access is pretty exciting,” said Micah Taylor, owner and founder of TaylorMade Barbershop. “It will be completely convenient for students.”

TaylorMade Barbershop has a location right down the road from ETSU campus, located on West Walnut Street, that is a hit with students, faculty and locals alike. Now, the convenience of an excellent haircut will be brought even closer to the students of ETSU.

“I’m very excited,” said Taylor. “It will be right in the area where they do all their dining and studying.”

Taylor has been a part of the renovation process of the Culp Center for over two months now, and he had nothing but positive things to say about being a part of the Culp Center renovations. He said he is thrilled for what’s to come.

“The transformation is mind-blowing,” said Taylor. “We didn’t have anything like that when I was on campus, so I think it’s going to be something to take the university to a different level.”

While Taylor boasts over 20 years of experience as a barber, he also teaches at the local barber school, Crown Cutz Academy. He says the plan is to hold internships at the Culp Center location for some of his Crown Cutz students and allow them to connect further with the ETSU community through promotion and marketing.

“We’re going to use this platform as a means of attracting new business, new barbers as well as new students,” said Taylor.

A 2008 alumnus of ETSU, Taylor and his barbershop’s ties to campus are significant. Taylor began at ETSU by giving haircuts to students, including former ETSU standout basketball player Tim Smith, which drew positive attention.

“My career took off when I became a freshman at ETSU,” said Taylor. “[The haircut of Tim Smith] catapulted my clientele to a different level, so I credit ETSU a lot for my success.”

The incoming ETSU barbershop location will be open exclusively on Mondays and by appointment only. The barber shop will be located on the main level where all the new dining locations are located. The cost for a full service haircut for the first semester of opening will be $5 for students.
