On Thursday, ETSU’s Student Government Association announced its new representatives elected by the student body.

New executive branch officers include: Shivam Patel, president; Seth Manning, executive vice president; and Josie Ward, executive vice president for finance and administration.

“We three rejoice, not in our victory, but in the overwhelming support we received from the student body,” Patel said. “Through these unfortunate circumstances, we will work tirelessly to ensure that all Bucs are welcomed to a home at ETSU come the fall.”

Elected student senators include: Mason Mosier, Nicholas Jordan, Savana Edwards, Caleb Anderson, Emily Shelton, Paulina Ramirez and Madalyn Darnell for the College of Arts and Sciences; David Crabtree, Paul Arrowood, Caleb Atkins, Samuel Murillo and Audrey Chaffin for the College of Business and Technology; Sadie King and Victor Carrillo Ochoa for the College of Clinical & Rehabilitative Health; Cameron Francis and Caroline Walsh for the College of Nursing; and John David Mullins and Riddhi Patel for the College of Public Health.

The president will appoint remaining seats for the Senate, including one seat for the College of Nursing, one seat for the School of Continuing Studies and Academic Outreach, and two appointments for the undeclared Senate seats.

Deans will appoint student Senate members to represent the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the Quillen College of Medicine and the School of Graduate Studies.

Additionally, students voted 942-35 in favor of the updates made to SGA’s constitution, which define “excused absences” for the Senate’s attendance policy.

Voting opened April 8 at midnight and closed April 9 at 8 p.m.

This year, in response to COVID-19 precautions, candidates campaigned virtually in the weeks leading up to the election. Candidates responded to “town hall” questions provided by the East Tennessean in advance of the election, and each candidate provided a video to discuss their platform.
