After much anticipation, ETSU’s inaugural Esports varsity team rosters were unveiled via press conference at the D.P. Culp Student Center on Sept. 25.

After having held tryouts in late August, the rosters for each of the two teams have been solidified, as nearly $20,000 in scholarship funding has been made available across the 14 eligible Esports team members.

The varsity squad consists of two teams competing in two seperate multiplayer games — “Overwatch”, captained by Ashe Greenberg, and “League of Legends” captained by Lucca Weber.

The Overwatch team is set to begin play this Monday at 8 p.m., facing off against Cornell White to kick off the Esports season.

“We’ve been preparing very hard for this first match of the season,” said interim coach Jeff Shell. “We are excited and ready to show off to everyone just exactly what we’ve been working on, and how we can help make ETSU proud of what we’ve been doing here.”

The Overwatch team will be competing every Monday and Thursday evening through the end of October and will be facing such teams as Indiana Tech University and Purdue Fort Wayne Esports. They will close the regular season against Mizzou Club Esports on Oct. 30. There will also be an Overwatch playoff series that begins play in November.

While the opponents for the League of Legends team are yet to be announced, the schedule has been released — beginning this Tuesday the team will play Tuesday nights at 6 p.m., as well on two Saturdays, on Oct. 3 and Oct. 31.

Every match this season will be streamed live at twitch.tv/etsuesports and can also be viewed in “The Cave” , which includes a brand new Esports arena and is located inside the Culp Center on campus. The Cave features a large 32-foot video wall for an optimal viewing experience.
