On Aug. 27, Culparoo occupied the D.P Culp Student Center on every floor.
From different tables with free goodies from different organizations, to tie-dye t-shirts near the Amphitheater, to Singo in the Cave or to trivia and cookouts in the evening, students could spend hours exploring the Culp and the surrounding areas.
Culparoo was designed as an event to let all students explore and learn more about the different locations in the Culp Center. The Culp renovations began in August of 2014 and were completed in Spring of 2020.
The Culp opened, and two weeks later all students were sent home for COVID-19 precautionary reasons. While the Culp was open on occasion during these unprecedented times, the beginning of the school year in the Fall 2021 marked a true opening to all students.
Considering many students on campus now have never been inside the Culp before due to its closure for renovations, Culparoo helped get all students involved with learning their way around the building and the different offices and organizations that are housed there.
“I believe that going to this event helped me get to know my way around the Culp, and I got to see friends I have not seen since the beginning of the pandemic,” said Aaron Fregoso, a freshman here on campus. “The different free [gifts] from the different tables were a huge bonus too.”
An organization with several stations throughout campus during Culparoo and Weeks of Welcome was the Mary V. Jordan Multicultural Center, located on the second floor of the Culp Center.
“[Culparoo] has helped us to spread our mission and vision of what the Mary V. Jordan Multicultural Center is,” said Carshonda H. Martin. “Today we were able to talk to students about how they can be involved with the Multicultural Center and how we can better support them and celebrate all identities of all students here on campus.”
Culparoo concluded around 10 p.m. with students being able to play card, board and video games with each other for the last few hours.
