On Sept. 24, Heather Killmeyer and a few of her colleagues performed a variety of musical compositions at the faculty recital in Powell Recital Hall, located in the new Martin Center. Their performances were centered around the theme of joy and renewal.

Some of those pieces included “Concertino” by Brenno Blauth, “Fantasia in G Minor” by Georg Telemann, “Night Crossing” by I’lana Cotton and “Bebop Tango” by David Gordon.

The concert was free, but all donation proceeds were given to Reed Day 2022, a recruiting event hosted by ETSU’s Department of Music.

While the music selection was chosen by Killmeyer, she made sure to keep the audience in mind.

“Each performance I consider the length of the performance, time period of the music, and I make sure the music has a wide variety so the whole audience can relate to the music lineup in a way,” said Killmeyer.

After intermission, Killmeyer performed a piece that isn’t typically played on piano, English horn or bass clarinet, but Killmeyer’s colleague, Lisa Perry, played the bass clarinet.

Killmeyer teaches oboe and bassoon lessons here at ETSU ,and Perry is part of the music theory program. Both are very prominent members of our music program here at ETSU, and they are very pleased with how the performance went on Friday.

“It was a pretty good turnout in terms of the crowd size. Plus, I also saw a fair amount of my students and past students in the audience,” said Killmeyer. ” Thank you again for all the positive comments I received the past week, and I would like to encourage everyone to attend upcoming performances. “

The next musical event hosted at the Martin Center will be the ETSU Choral Collage on Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. inside the Grand Hall. To learn more about these kinds of events, visit https://etsutickets.com/martincenter/Online/default.asp.
