Last week, I talked about the importance of mental health and how that plays such a big role in your life and in your ability to do schoolwork. This week, I want to talk about physical health, its importance in your life and how I am making it a priority.

I have been a lifeguard for a while now; along with being a lifeguard comes several physical things you must do to remain certified and eligible for working as one. I have to be able to swim so far, have timed tests and be able to consistently test that I am able to pick someone up twice my size from the bottom of the pool and bring him up to the surface and perform a minimum of 7 minutes of CPR on him.

The 7 minuets has been what they call the average life-saving time between water and an ambulance. To be able to do this, I have to stay in some sort of physical health. Some run, some walk and some swim. Lifeguards swim mostly, and I am no different.

Recently, I made the decision I was going to run at least a half marathon, if not a full marathon in 2022. Some might say this is crazy, as I currently don’t run, but I think that it is an attainable goal.

I will begin running this Monday in intervals, slowly getting myself up to around 13-15 miles a session by Christmas. Slow and steady wins the race, but it also talked the untalked about consistency.

Consistency is key to any and all fitness related goals. So, how can you to work physical health into your life? Start with some small goals and look to incorporate them into your schedule. Build up and be consistent. It will help you to focus, it will build strength and more importantly, it builds confidence and physical health abilities.
