On Nov. 1, to start off homecoming week at ETSU, Bucky’s Big Top Carnival was held in the Quad from 4:30-6 p.m.

Campus organizations, including Greek life, POLO, campus ministries and many more participated by setting up booths and games for the entire Johnson City community, university alumni, students and faculty.  Activities included a balloon pop with Alpha Omicron Pi and BYX, a hamster ball race, a dunk tank and henna tattoos.

Those who attended had the opportunity to participate in all of the booths for free, winning prizes and great carnival-themed food.  Also featured at the carnival were two Marsh Regional Blood Center buses, which hosted many student donors before and during the carnival, drawing just under a pint of blood from each student and saving three lives in total with it.

All campus organizations based their games off the homecoming theme of a carnival, from the ringmaster at the hamster ball races to the popcorn and cotton candy given out to those in attendance.

Allison Collins, who took part in planning and organizing the carnival, was eager to share all of the work she did to create this event for homecoming. They asked students to bring carnival-themed games so those attending could feel a carnival atmosphere.

“Bucky’s Big Top Carnival is an event perfectly centered around our homecoming theme this year. We wanted to not only make the theme a carnival but bring one to campus,” said Collins. “Hearing all of the ideas from the different organizations made me so excited for this event, and after seeing them all in action, I was not disappointed.”

Following the carnival was the homecoming pep rally, getting students excited for the homecoming events ahead and the football game on Saturday, Nov. 6.
