As students slip into a routine for the new semester, self-care is a subject that seems to become less and less vital as homework assignments flow in.

To an organization here on campus, however, the need for self-care has never been more essential, especially as the winter months bring new stresses to the table. OASIS, or the Outreach &
Advocacy Sexuality Information for Students, has offered a solution to the downward trend of
self-care by hosting the “Show Yourself Some Love” event.

The event, anticipated to take place on Feb. 24, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Culp Cave, will feature a “free thrift” that will be completely free to all students, faculty and staff at ETSU. In preparation for this event, OASIS is asking students to bring their gently used clothing, accessories and shoes of all shapes and sizes to the counseling center on the 3rd flood of the Culp.

For many years, OASIS has sponsored an event in February to celebrate students and self-love, since many of us don’t give the care to ourselves that we so tediously share with others, which is a reason why OASIS is geared towards the importance of self-care.

They do this especially through “sex education resources and sexual assault prevention information, as well as presentations and outreach focusing on sober sex, healthy relationships, healthy masculinity, inclusivity and sex-positivity,” said organizational leader Cynthia Millhorn.

The “Show Yourself Some Love” event will not only feature a free clothing thrift but is also expected to host haircuts, makeovers and exciting giveaways for those struggling with self-image during this uncertain time.

“After the difficulties of the last couple of years and the ongoing economic and mental health stressors, we see this as an opportunity to remind students how important self care is, provide support in this area, and provide a free and easy way for students to acquire fresh apparel and a little
pampering,” Millhorn said.

If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering for the event, please
contact oasis@etsu.edu, and don’t forget to bring your gently used items to the Counseling
Center by Monday, Feb. 21.
