According to the Mockingbird Archives, the first issue of this student literary magazine was released in the Spring of 1974 at ETSU, and it has been an annual production ever since. Currently, the archive contains every published edition since 2010, and the 2022 edition is about to be added.
With no official release date yet announced, the editor of this year’s edition, Emily E. Price, said
“The Mockingbird, as ETSU’s literary journal, strives to represent the various voices encompassed on our campus in creative writing… I’m happy to say that I will be publishing nearly 50 pieces of student work in the categories of drama, fiction, nonfiction and poetry. The edition should arrive in physical form in April, and a showcase of the winners for the Mockingbird Award in each category will occur on the second day of the ETSU Spring Literary Festival.”
Included in these pieces are some creations by some affiliates of our own East Tennessean, which we are very proud of!
Each year has been unique in its own right, and I’m sure the owners of those 50 to-be-published projects are excited to add to the rich literary culture of ETSU.
Although the submission date has passed for this edition, it is never too early to think about next year’s. The annual submission deadline is Nov. 8, and requirements for entering pieces can be found at https://www.etsu.edu/cas/litlang/mockingbird/submission.php
