At the end of March, Calvin Claggett announced he would be leaving ETSU to accept a position at Yale University as the director of marketing and fan experience.

Claggett served as the director of external operations and equity & inclusion for ETSU Athletics. He has served in a professional position with the athletics department since 2017.

“I would not be the man I am today if it weren’t for ETSU and the phenomenal people in this region,” said Claggett in his announcement post. “My life is better because of ETSU and what this place has given me. Thank you for the unforgettable memories with unforgettable mentors, colleagues, coaches, and mentors.”

In 2020, Claggett was appointed as the first-ever head of diversity, equity and inclusion within the department, serving as a special assistant to the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion.

He has a long history at ETSU, receiving both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the university. He received a bachelor’s degree in sociology, public administration in 2016, and a master’s degree in in higher education leadership and policy analysis, with a concentration in student personnel three years later. For part of his undergraduate career, Claggett was a marketing intern for ETSU Athletics.

While in Johnson City, he also served as the game director for the Southern Conference championship games for women’s and men’s basketball since 2017, according to his biography page on Yale’s website. He was an administrative supervisor for ETSU Spirit and co-supervisor for student-athlete advisory council, in addition to being a part of the Black Faculty & Staff Association and ETSU College of Public Health Diversity and Social Justice Council.

“I can’t wait to get to work so that I may continue the commitment of impacting lives in this new chapter of my life,” Claggett stated at the conclusion of his post.
