The ETSU Counseling Center began offering new therapeutical services recently, and students can now book up to 45-minute sessions in a room called the Relaxation Room for either light therapy or guided meditation.

Although the two therapies take place in the same room, they appear to be vastly different.

If someone were to book a light therapy session, they would find themselves sitting in a chair in front of a screen-like projector that displays light akin to the sun. It offers a way to relax and soak in the positive effects.

According to Mayo Clinic, light therapy is used to help with a variety of issues, including seasonal depression, and essentially serves as a faux sun when it is too cold to get those benefits outside

There are a couple of warnings though, that light may trigger a few issues and that if headache or pain occurs to call the number they provided that connects the patient to a GA.

The other therapy is guided meditation, where the patient is provided with a tablet and a biofeedback device that clips onto the ear. For the next 45 minutes, the meditator uses the device to be guided through a variety of meditations to choose from, all aimed at the user growing more aware of themselves and having a better ability to focus on the present.

These services are available in the mornings Monday through Friday at varying times.
