The Center for Physical Activity, located at the heart of campus, has grown to become a primal resource for all things physical here at ETSU. As a hub for interaction, networking and self-improvement, the CPA has brought new and exciting classes, activities, equipment and clubs to campus year after year since its grand opening.

Not only does the center feature multiple classes throughout the school week and houses an entire floor of state-of-the-art exercise equipment, but also the CPA features an Outdoor Adventure Center located behind the building itself. The Outdoor Adventure Center is home to the Challenge Course, which is set to feature new events such as Zip Line & S’mores, Giant Swings & Smoothies and Rappelling & Hot Chocolate, as well as activities aimed at gathering students off-campus such as Adventure Trips and Adventure Equipment/Buc Bikes. Through the Adventure Trips program, Campus Recreation has already scheduled over 10 trips for this semester, including a fall break camping trip, a hike to the Beauty Spot and a hike to Grandfather Mountain.

The CPA already features bouts of incredible amenities that are available completely to student convenience throughout the entirety of the semester. Yet, it is not just the current equipment that is getting the Campus Recreation team excited, but rather what surprises lie in the months ahead.

“This December, during winter break, we will undergoing a small renovation that will have a big impact on our students,” says Kari Albarado, director of Campus Recreation. “We will be replacing our weight room floor and upgrading a large portion of strength and free weight equipment.”

In addition to this upgrade, Albarado said that improvements will also feature an “indoor turf for tire flip machines, sleds and functional training.”

Students can expect new squat racks, bench press machines and much more with this project that has been at the forefront of Albarado’s agenda since her start with Campus Recreation in 2017.
