ETSU women’s golf competed in the Golfweek Fall Challenge earlier this week at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club in an up-and-down-and-up outing.

The Bucs ended the first day of play as a team tied for sixth place with New Mexico State in the 20-team tournament. The Bucs would struggle as a group on day two of the challenge, ending the day tied for 13th place with California Baptist before bouncing back on the final day of play to end their bid with a ninth-place finish as a team in the event.

It was in ETSU senior Hollie Muse (Liverpool, England) that the Bucs found the most success on the course. Muse would finish the event 1-under-par 212 (70-69-73). The senior would tally 35 pars, nine birdies and one eagle during her play, finishing 14th in the event of 104 competitors.

An already solid showing for the Bucs saw an exciting moment of play when sophomore Sophie Bert (Deurle, Belgium) earned a hole-in-one during the opening round of play on Sunday. Bert would end the tournament 4-over-par 217 (72-74-71), tied for 28th place.

Sophomore Alex Crafton (Lake Mary, Fla.) would finish tied for 37th with an 8-over-par score of 221 (70-79-72). Unfortunately, struggles on the second day of play would weigh down Crafton’s scorecard.

The Bucs will return home to regroup before they travel again to defend their title in the Golfweek Red Sky Challenge in Vail, Colorado at the famous Red Sky Golf Club on Sept. 26-28.

Last year, the Bucs were able to place three players in the top six at the weather-shortened event as well as take the team title and a runner-up finish by former Buc Tereza Melecka.
