The ETSU Martin Center announced ticket sale dates for its upcoming inaugural Broadway season. With hits such as “Annie,” “CATS,” “Riverdance — 25th Anniversary Show,” and “Chicago,” tickets are quickly being bought, with “Riverdance” already sold out. Ticket sales for the remaining shows will continue this week and end on Nov. 16 at 10 a.m.
Jennifer Clements, executive director for the Martin Center, has been working on this event for the past year to secure bookings and prepare a spectacular lineup. What started as a conversation back in the 1980s has finally arrived at the ETSU campus after many struggles due to the restrictions of COVID-19.
“It’s been one of the dreams that started back in the 80s when they started talking about this facility,” Clements said. “It’s just a natural progression that we are finally to the point where we are able to host Broadway here.”
With over 1,100 season tickets being sold when the original goal was 300-500, Clements shared her disbelief at the public’s overwhelming response.
“If you would’ve asked us a year ago when we started planning this, I would’ve never guessed that the response would be so positive,” said Clements.
Excited for the Martin Center’s future, Clements stated that this is the first appearance of Broadway in the region of Johnson City. She also spoke of future plans, hinting at secret projects the public can look forward to in the next couple of weeks.
“It’s just really exciting to have the opportunity, to have the facility, to be in a good place that we’re able to offer this type of programming for not only the university but also the community,” Clements said.
