ETSU cross country head coach George Watts was awarded Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year for the 2022 Southern Conference.  

This fall season, Watts has led the men’s cross country team through a well-accomplished season.  

Starting off the season strong, the team placed second in their opening race on Friday, Sept. 2 at USC Upstate Eye Opener in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  

The team also placed second on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia.  

In a bigger race, on Saturday, Oct. 1, the team placed 14 out of 31 at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.  

In the last regular season race on Friday, Oct. 14 at the VertCross Invitational in Kernersville, North Carolina, the team placed first. 

The Southern Conference Championship race was held on Sunday, Oct. 30 in Charleston, South Carolina. The team placed second, with Furman winning first.  

Other awards for the 2022 Southern Conference Men’s Cross Country season the Runner of the Year is junior Dylan Schubert (Loveland, Colorado) from Furman, and the Freshman of the Year is Andrew McGinnis (Columbus, Georgia) from Samford. 

The team will travel to the NCAA South Regional on Friday, Nov. 11 in Huntsville, Alabama and the NCAA Championship race will be on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
