On Tuesday, Nov 15, ETSU’s Wellness Kitchen hosted a Smoothie Bowl workshop to promote healthy habits for students during finals season.
The workshop was holiday themed, and students were able to enjoy their delicious bowls after learning some key information about nutrition as well. Shaina Reins, a graduate assistant for fitness and wellness at ETSU, said that the Wellness Kitchen plans to host additional workshops in the future to keep students up to date on how to nourish their bodies.
“The Wellness Kitchen is a newly created program that falls within Student Wellness. Through pop-up tabling events and workshops hosted by The Wellness Kitchen, students, faculty and staff are able to learn how to create healthy meals on a budget while also learning about basic nutritional guidelines that are set by the U.S. Government,” Reins stated.
The Smoothie Bowl workshop was free and open to all ETSU students, although the reserved seats did fill up quickly. If you didn’t manage to get a spot, The Wellness Kitchen plans to post the recipe so that students can make their own bowls at home and will be hosting more events throughout the fall semester.
“With finals week on the horizon, we hope to share this easy-to-make recipe and a chance for students to set aside their studies for relaxation as they cook. We will also have Wellness Kitchen pop-up fuel stops throughout Exam Week to provide snacks for students,” Reins said.
Although the holiday season can be a busy time for students, Reins encourages those who are interested to sign up for one of the workshops for a quick and beneficial lesson.
“Events like this one are important because they include a free meal, a fun cooking workshop, and information about nutrition. These seminars seek to establish a positive relationship with food through having fun as we create a variety of different recipes,” Reins stated.
For students interested in attending an upcoming workshop, the Wellness Kitchen will be hosting a Hot Cocoa and Cookie Decorating workshop on Friday, Dec. 2, from 10 to 2 p.m. in the Wellness Corner of the CPA. No registration is necessary for this event.
“Students are encouraged to drop in, relax, and decorate a sugar cookie while sipping on hot cocoa to take a break from studying for finals,” Reins said.
