7 Brew, a community-focused coffee shop, is set to open a new location in Johnson City. The West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department (WCCVFD) was awarded a $2,000 check at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new 7 Brew coffee shop Wednesday, Jan. 18.

7 Brew, originating from Rogers, Arkansas, was founded in 2015 and has opened 49 locations across the country. The company currently has two locations in Tennessee; there is a location in Murfreesboro and another in Kingsport. The Johnson City 7 Brew will be located at 1910 N. Roan St., in the same lot as the former Toys “R” Us location.

“We want to be able to provide a space for people to be anything, but just themselves,” said Halie Liggett, director of training for 7 Brew. “We really like to be community involved, to be part of everything with everyone.”

The company prides itself on “selling happiness and kindness, one cup at a time,” according to Liggett. The values that 7 Brew holds led Larry Wilson, local owner of the location, to presenting the WCCVFD with the check for $2,000. The check was presented by Liggett and accepted by Captain Todd York and firefighter Carol Jones.

A press release followed the ceremony announcing a second location opening in Johnson City. The site of this future location is 1208 W. Harris Drive, which is the location of the former Ruby Tuesday across from ETSU.

“We’ll be opening up across from ETSU to provide even more for our college kids like that, even job opportunities as well,” said Liggett. “We like to be involved anywhere and everywhere that we can, and the majority of this town is college too, so we would like to provide that space them.”

The location on N. Roan St. is set to open this March with the location across from ETSU following months afterwards. The press release issued by 7 Brew states that the opening of these locations will bring 50 job opportunities to this area.
