Michael Farkas worked for the East Tennessean from 2000 to 2002. He served as a sports writer and editor during his time with the publication.
He graduated in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication with a concentration in journalism.
Farkas now works as the senior designer and page editor for Gannett’s USA Today Network Design Center. He works remotely and designs sports sections for the USA Today Network, including the Indianapolis Star and Columbus Dispatch.
“The East Tennessean gave me my first opportunity to cover and write about sporting events at East Tennessee State University,” said Farkas. “And then to be responsible for being the editor of a sports section, directing coverage of events, planning, editing and designing the section bi-weekly.”
He began working as the sports editor of the Bristol Herald Courier before taking a position with the Tampa Tribune in Tampa, Florida. These positions allowed him to earn the job at USA Today where he enjoys the opportunity to design the sports sections of newspapers across the nation and the freedom of working remotely.
